Superlative Adjectives - ESL Worksheet

Good Morning & Happy Monday!

Today's worksheet involves practice with superlatives. I posted a similar worksheet on comparatives a couple of weeks ago. The worksheet is pretty comprehensive as to the rules, so it works better for intermediate and advanced students.

You'll need to download the worksheet to view it and use it.

Thank you for visiting and have a great week!

Superlative adjectives describe the difference between three things.

·         For adjectives with 1 syllable, use the + -est.
·         If an adjective ends in 1 vowel and 1 consonant, double the consonant, as in big à the biggest
·         If the adjective ends in –e, add only st., as in nice à the nicest.
·         For most adjectives with two or more syllables, use the most + adjective.
·         For two-syllable adjectives that end in –le, add only –st.
simple  →  the simplest
·         For two-syllable adjectives that end in –y, change the –y to i and add-est.
